You may have read in previous newsletters about our work to organize the Bodwell Granite Company scrip. "Scrip" was used by BGC as a way to pay thier workers - credit-card-sized slips of paper with a dollar amount printed on the front, that could only be redeemed at the Company Store. This summer we featured four men and their connections to Vinalhaven and the Bodwell Granite Company. We constructed and filled a "vault" with 4 of the 6 boxes of scrip we were given by Bob & Lois Candage when they closed their hardware store, Port O' Call.
